EFT can be really good in an emergency. There are many stories around about people who do EFT in emergencies and get rapid relief. It works!
No setup required in an emergency, just tap. Tap the usual points: top of head, eyebrow, outer eye, under eye, under nose, chin, collarbone then the under arm points. Just tap continually until you feel better, as long as it takes. You don’t need to be saying anything at this point. We usually say reminder words to keep our mind focused, but in an emergency your mind will probably be focused anyway!

So, for example, if you are injured, seek medical help if you need to, but, at the same time, have a go at tapping first.
I recently got badly scratched on the eyeball by a rose bush branch (yeah, I know, careless!). I started tapping straight away while holding my eye closed and cursing my stupidity! Tapped round and round for about 5-10 minutes to give some immediate relief after which I was able to think of a set up long the lines of “Even though I’ve scratched my eye and it feels BAD, I love and accept myself completely”. The eye hurt mildly for the rest of the day but the next day I was fine. This was a serious one and I would have gone to the doctor in the past. Maybe my irritation at myself was a part of the problem? Who knows?

Likewise, if you are really upset over something, whatever it is, just tap. If you find yourself crying hysterically, feeling like seriously hurting something or are overtaken by ANY negative emotion (it happens to all of us, don’t worry), just TAP STRAIGHT AWAY. You’ll calm down pretty quickly, and then be able to do EFT “properly”.

When you tap continually through the points like this, you reduce the intensity of the negative emotion. You are able to calm your emotions down, calm your body down and allow it to start healing. You will feel the benefits almost immediately. EFT is very easy, flexible, and almost impossible to get wrong.

Missing the set-up step of EFT is not a tragedy in most cases. Sometimes a setup is needed, but you WILL get an effect from tapping the other points anyway. Once EFT becomes a habit, you’ll find yourself turning to EFT at the first sign of a problem. It’s probably the best thing you can do. And let me know how you go!

Have you tried EFT yet? Have you downloaded my Beginners Guide and had a go? Maybe by now you will have discovered some of the positive benefits of EFT, which is great. Hopefully, you may now be thinking “can this do anything more for me?” And I like to think that it can.

Why not take it further?. You can turn “mechanical” EFT into “creative” EFT. I’ll explain. When we first learn EFT we often learn it from a paper guide like my Beginner’s Guide. I also try to explain the concept, as well as I can in the video in a previous post.It tells or shows you how to do EFT mechanically, which is an excellent starting point. When I’m doing EFT though, I never stick to the script. This is where it gets interesting! I can bang on and on at you in the guide and the video about being open to the feelings and thoughts going through your head. And tell you to tap on them of course. But after a little while you’ll start adapting the method to suit your circumstances, and maybe doing something like this:

Out loud: Even though I have this sharp pain in my left temple, I love and accept myself completely.
Thinking It’s actually more like a throbbing sharp pain…

Out loud: Even though I have this throbbing sharp pain in my left temple, I love and accept myself completely.
Thinking: Hey!, that guy at the service station was rude to me…
Out loud: Even though I have this throbbing sharp pain in my left temple – and it might be because I’m mad at the guy at the service station – (and thinking: yes, that might be why I got this headache) “I love and accept myself completely, and forgive myself and anyone else who may be involved.”

Well, I said that 3 times roughly, so let’s move on to the other points.
Physical tapping:
Top of head: throbbing sharp pain in left temple
Eyebrow: bloody rude guy at service station
Outer eye: Why did I let him get to me?
Under eye: Why did I let him get to me, throbbing pain left temple (thinking: Ah-hah – he was being sarcastic!)
Under nose: He was sarcastic just like my ex used to be.
Chin: throbbing pain, John was always putting me down sarcastically
Collarbone: I hate it when people are sarcastic, throbbing pain
Under arm: throbbing pain, Dad used to be sarcastic
Next:
Take a moment, breathe deeply and think: Woah! I just went from a headache… to my Dad… via my ex.!

Top of head: Dad was always sarcastic.
Eyebrow: throbbing pain (thinking: ooh, my headache’s eased off a bit, it always annoyed me that Dad was sarcastic)
Outer eye: hated Dad being sarcastic
Under eye: hated Dad being sarcastic
Under nose: the guy just hooked me with his sarcasm
Chin: hate the sarcasm, throbbing pain
Collarbone: hated Dad being sarcastic
Under arm: throbbing pain

Deep breath, shake out hands, pause.
And now…
Thinking: headache? Out of 10? Maybe 2? But now – the guy being sarcastic? Annoyance? 0/10… Not his fault.. My ex? A distant memory… Dad being sarcastic? Still a bit annoyed about that, maybe 4/10?OK I’ll tap on that next…

So, knowing how I need to be specific, I might move onto:

Even though Dad embarrassed me in front of my boyfriend when I was 16, by being sarcastic, I love and accept myself completely… Do you see what we’ve done? We’ve moved from a headache to a longstanding issue. We’ll now tap on that “Dad being sarcastic” memory until it fades. The headache will probably be a distant memory, but I’ll go back and check anyway.

What I find important with this is to make sure I go back and check scores out of 10 for all the things that I’ve tapped on. Once you start going down this track you’ll find you get better results with your EFT sessions. You will find yourself relieved of lifelong issues you never considered to be problems.

If your score goes UP on anything after tapping, this means there is something in behind it. If a thought came up, or a physical sensation, tap on that. If nothing immediately obvious came to you , maybe try approaching from a slightly different angles.

Try doing a round on:Even though I have this problem, and I don’t know why, I love and accept myself completely.

A beautiful brave woman I’ve been doing EFT with, believes that love is involved with how EFT works. I’m inclined to agree with her.

For some reason many people have been suggesting to me why or how EFT works. We all seem to need to come up with an explanation for ourselves for why it gets results. I like the love paradigm. It fits in with how I’m thinking about love. What is love anyway? I believe love is the energy that runs through our bodies, it’s the space between the cells, it’s the connection between us all, its both bigger than all of us but fits between nerve cells. I think it’s the energy in our energy systems!

No doubt in some later posts I’ll elaborate on this, but the short version is that I believe love means “nothing in-between”. I’ll explain – If you love someone – you love them exactly as they are, or you are not loving them. You accept them completely. Does that work for you? Conversely, if one is keeping secrets, there cannot be love. Love is a universal truth. If we are talking about love we are talking about love in every context, so for me, love is nothing in-between. Love is the connection between us all. It’s what many of us call God! It’s the loving presence in our lives no matter what we’ve done.

My friend suggested that EFT works because when we get a reaction to an emotion or situation, it’s because we’ve shut off our own love for ourselves in that situation or feeling. EFT’s founder Gary Craig uses a discovery statement for EFT, “the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy systems”. Well if love runs through our energy systems, and it has hit a blockage, it makes sense that we have not been able to love ourselves with that problem.

The EFT set up statement is in the form “Even though I have this problem, I love and accept myself completely”. While they’re my words for it, it is common to use the word “love” in that second part. Complete acceptance of ourselves, even without the word love, is love (see my logic above).

EFT works by tapping meridian points while focussing on the problem. Tapping those meridian points, while focussing on the problem is gently resetting those meridians, and the act of touching ourselves in a healing way is a form of loving. A gentle touch is often how we are soothed as small children, by someone who loves us.

So maybe EFT is a method of applying love to ourselves. Applying love to ourselves heals our wounds. Maybe EFT is just a particularly effective way of applying the love where it’s required.

Welcome to ReallyGood Ideas – EFT for all!

Why am I writing this blog? I used to work in Project Management, and life was stressful, I was always running and dreamt of when it would stop and I’d be able to do what I wanted to do. Then I found EFT. Now I love teaching people EFT. I LOVE the moment when a person first makes a difference to how they feel. The relief, the realisation that the pain has gone away, and that they did it themselves! It’s such a joy to watch. I reckon the whole world should know EFT, and I want to be a part of spreading the word.

Learning EFT has changed my life. Partly because I chose to give up my “safe” but soul-destroying job to do what I want to do. But mostly because doing EFT in the first place allowed me to drop all the fears and “programming” that I’d lived with all those years before I learnt it.

There’s a theme in the movie “Donnie Darko” about a continuum between Fear and Love. I thought it was just a joke on mindless religious stuff, but now I know what they were saying (minus the religious bent) – we either operate from fear or love. I’m aware that I’ve made a big shift myself from fear to love, and I think it’s the place to be. Life is much happier here.

So read on, and I wish you much love and a very happy brilliant life as well.
